Sony, Canon or Nikon
Which System suits me better?
When it comes to wanting to enter this beautiful world of photos and videos, we must take the equipment into account. Brands like the well-known Canon, Nikon and Sony have a large number of cameras and lenses.
However, don’t be too quick to invest in very professional cameras on the first try. Like everything in life, we must begin to take our first steps in photography knowing what we want to do and what equipment is useful for that task.
In this blog we will see the different cameras that these brands handle for your initiation in photography and video. In addition to semi-professional cameras and the most professional that we could find, from my point of view.
Sony offers a variety of shapes, weights and sizes for its cameras; However, the Alpha system is the most valuable asset to Sony’s compact mirrorless cameras. Sony was the first to the full-frame mirrorless party followed by Canon and Nikon. However, the Sony A6000 range offers excellent entry-level APS-C cameras used by vloggers due to its light weight and small size. Travel photographers love these cameras that fit neatly into a small bag and always have excellent image quality.
The full-frame Alpha 7 III is a masterpiece of photography and videography technology. It offers a 24.2 megapixel full-frame sensor, image stabilization, continuous shooting up to 10 fps, and 4K video. The Alpha 7 III is a valuable entry-level full-frame camera for keen photographers without question.
Furthermore, the Sony Alpha 7R Mark IV is the newest full-frame Alpha camera released by Sony. It comes with a 61 megapixel sensor. The ‘R’ models of Sony’s A7 series cameras are designed first and foremost for resolution, and the Sony A7R Mark IV certainly delivers.
On the other hand, the ‘S’ of Sony cameras are more exclusive for video recording than for photography. The Alpha 7 S III offers 4K video at 120 fps and 10-bit 4: 2: 2 file. It offers excellent low-light performance thanks to its 12.1 megapixel sensor and high-precision autofocus.
The Canon EOS 90D is an entry-level camera with a 32.5-megapixel sensor, 4K video, and 10fps recording. It’s an amazing single camera APS-C workhorse, its handling and ergonomics are a joy. Rumors of the death of the DSLR will have been greatly exaggerated if Canon continues to produce models as good as this one.
Canon EOS RP is smaller, lighter, and much cheaper than all other Canon cameras. It is the second mirrorless camera made by Canon. It was designed to be compact, affordable, and very easy to use. With a 26.2 megapixel sensor, 4K video, and a fully articulating screen, this camera is one of the best hybrid cameras that cater to photo and video needs.
Finally the R5. This camera comes with an extraordinary 8K video recording, 45 megapixel sensor, continues shooting up to 20fs, and a fully articulated screen as well. It has been a revolutionary camera mainly for its 8k video recording; however, it suffers from overheating once it passes its limits.
With the advent of full-frame mirrorless cameras into the game, Nikon had to leave its DSLRs behind and focus on the future. Nikon is the slowest brother who expects others to step up, but performs superbly when he decides to act. The Nikon Z system is perhaps one of the most sought after by professional photographers, but not by videographers. Nikon offers excellent quality and neatness for color photos, but still lags behind in video specs.
The Nikon Z6 and Z7 are excellent cameras for enthusiasts and high-end photographers. The Nikon Z7 comes with a 45.7 megapixel full-frame sensor, a nice viewfinder, 4K video, and 9fps continuous shooting. While the Nikon Z6 has a 24.5 megapixel sensor, also full frame, 12 fps recording and the same 4K video at 30p.
However, the Nikon Z5 is the little sister of these three cameras with some differences that make it cheaper and lighter than the other two cameras. Don’t forget the Nikon Z50 which is the APS-C of the Nikon mirrorless system.
To sum up; there are a lot of cameras on the market and they are all brand new cameras with some different details from each other on these big three brands. The most important aspect to know when buying one of these cameras is to find its main purpose of use. For example, we are going to focus on photos or videos, if you need a high continuous shooting range or if you are looking for comfort and space saving in your travel bag. Keep these tips in mind when deciding on one of these cameras.
